Climate Change, Adaptation, and Disaster Risk Management

Climate Change, Adaptation, and Disaster Risk Management

IMPACTSOM delivers integrated climate resilience and disaster preparedness services designed to help government institutions, development partners, NGOs, and communities to understand, manage, and reduce the growing environmental and climate-related risks affecting Somalia. Our expertise begins with comprehensive climate vulnerability and risk assessments, using tools such as hazard mapping, exposure analysis, and climate scenario modelling to identify how droughts, floods, storms, heat stress, sea-level rise, and environmental degradation affect people, livelihoods, infrastructure, and natural resources. Through this evidence-based approach, we support the development of practical and community-driven climate adaptation strategies that strengthen resilience, protect ecosystems, and safeguard essential services.

Our services also cover full Disaster Risk Management (DRM), including multi-hazard assessments, hazard–vulnerability–capacity analysis, and the preparation of community, district, and institutional contingency plans. IMPACTSOM designs and strengthens early warning and early action systems, supports emergency preparedness planning, and conducts post-disaster needs assessments to guide rapid, effective recovery. We work closely with local authorities, humanitarian actors, and national institutions to integrate risk reduction and climate adaptation into development policies, legislation, and organizational systems.

To ensure sustainability and local ownership, IMPACTSOM provides capacity-building programs that strengthen institutional and community-level skills in disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, emergency coordination, environmental governance, and resilience planning. This includes tailored training for government departments, NGOs, and community structures on preparedness, early warning, rapid response, and climate-smart development practices. Additionally, our environmental resilience services include ecosystem restoration, soil conservation, land rehabilitation, water resource management, reforestation, and environmental impact assessments helping clients adopt sustainable and environmentally responsible approaches to development.

Through policy development, research, and advocacy, IMPACTSOM supports partners in developing climate change policies, resilience frameworks, and resource mobilization strategies aligned with national and global climate commitments. By combining technical expertise, community engagement, and evidence-based analysis, IMPACTSOM ensures that climate change adaptation and disaster risk management efforts translate into stronger, safer, and more resilient communities across Somalia.
